Personal Growth Period Career Speakers

A unique student-led experience at Hoboken High School is the Personal Growth Period, or PGP. This ever-evolving eighty minute block of time in the middle of the school day is designed to empower students to make choices that meet their needs or interests. Experiences and activities are created on a monthly basis to support classroom instruction, provide academic support, create authentic learning opportunities or explore interest related activities that may not fit into the normal school day for the average student. Similar to a college hour or community hour, students are modeling the collegiate experience of unstructured time in their day and may choose the activity for the day that suits their current needs.

Education for Future Planning

The Hoboken School District is committed to developing a passion for lifelong learning. We do this by ensuring that every student sees the relevance in what they are learning to their personal, academic, social and career goals. We are a district that believes in engaging our students through rigor, relevance and relationships so that they are more likely to pursue rigorous learning experiences that challenge their understanding and develop their unique talents in ways that would otherwise not be possible. It is our collective measure to ensure all students graduate as informed consumers of post-secondary education/training to encourage completion of a postsecondary credential with value in the labor market.

The requirement for a long range plan, has been embedded in the district’s strategic plan to ensure it is integrated into the district- and building-level continuous improvement plans each year. Action items are developed based on input received by administrators, staff, students, parents, post-secondary institutions, and local/regional/state industry and economic/workforce development representatives.
