Hoboken Middle School 8th Grade Student Wins Hudson County Law Day Poetry Contest
Hoboken, NJ – May 6, 2025 – The Hoboken Public School District proudly congratulates Hoboken Middle School student Felicity Dallara on being named the winner of the 2025 Hudson County Law Day Poetry Contest. Felicity’s original poem, inspired by this year’s national Law Day theme “The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One,” was recognized for its powerful reflection on the enduring values of unity and justice.
Felicity’s work stood out among entries from across the county for its eloquence and depth. Her poem captured the spirit of the Constitution as a living document—one that binds a diverse people under shared principles of liberty, equality, and the rule of law. An excerpt from her poem reads:
“‘Out of many, one’ our motto true,
United we stand red, white and blue.
The Constitution, a guiding light,
Protects our rights, keeps everything right.”
“Felicity’s poem is a reminder of how young voices can bring fresh insight to timeless ideals,” said Ms. Christy Gaudio, Supervisor of Literacy. “Her ability to interpret such a complex theme with both thoughtfulness and heart is truly inspiring.”
At a formal ceremony held at the historic Hudson County Courthouse, Felicity was presented with a commemorative plaque and a $75 check in recognition of her achievement. The event brought together students, educators, judges, and civic leaders to celebrate the importance of civic education and youth engagement in the legal and democratic process.
Mr. Ryan Sorafine, Principal of Hoboken Middle School, expressed his pride in Felicity’s accomplishment. “Felicity is an exceptional student whose writing consistently demonstrates maturity and insight beyond her years,” said Sorafine. “Her poem beautifully captured the ideals of our Constitution and the importance of unity in a diverse nation. We are incredibly proud of her.”
The Hoboken Public School District commends Felicity on this outstanding accomplishment and thanks the Hudson County Bar Association and the Hudson Vicinage of the New Jersey Superior Court for continuing to provide enriching opportunities that elevate student voice and civic understanding.
