Hoboken High School Senior Alison Chavez Awarded Prestigious Coronat Scholarship at Syracuse University
Hoboken, NJ, — (April 27, 2026) Hoboken High School is proud to announce that senior Alison Chavez has been selected as a recipient of the highly prestigious Coronat Scholarship at Syracuse University—one of the institution’s most distinguished honors, awarded to incoming students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and community engagement.
Alison stands among Hoboken High School’s top scholars, ranking in the top 10% of her class. Throughout her four years, she has pursued one of the school’s most rigorous academic programs, completing an extensive lineup of Advanced Placement courses, including AP World History, AP U.S. History, AP Seminar, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP English Language, AP Precalculus, and AP Research. Her academic record reflects both intellectual curiosity and a deep commitment to excellence.
Beyond her academic accomplishments, Alison has cultivated a strong passion for art and design. She serves as the Social Media Coordinator and Art Instructor for Art for Unity, where she helps foster creativity and connection within the community. Her interest in digital design extends to her growing online presence, where she creates thoughtful movie reviews and visually engaging infographics. Her work has reached an audience of more than 1,000 followers and accumulated over 1.5 million views, demonstrating both her creativity and her ability to connect with a broad audience.
“Alison is one of the most dedicated, talented, and hardworking students I have encountered,” said Staci Gleason, Hoboken High School Guidance Counselor, who has worked closely with her for the past three years. “Her attention to detail, creative vision, and commitment to excellence truly set her apart.”
Alison’s leadership and service to the community are equally noteworthy. She serves as co-captain of the Biolympiad team, mentoring peers and contributing to the team’s success. She has completed more than 200 hours of community service through work with a homeless shelter, a thrift store, and as a summer camp counselor. Additionally, she is an active member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish National Honor Society, participates in class council, and competes as a member of the track team.
The Coronat Scholars Program is among Syracuse University’s most competitive and esteemed awards. It provides full tuition to select students admitted to undergraduate programs in the College of Arts and Sciences|Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and service. Scholars also receive access to exclusive academic, leadership, and enrichment opportunities designed to elevate their undergraduate experience.
The Coronat Scholarship will provide Alison with both financial support and access to these unique opportunities as she begins her journey at Syracuse University. She plans to continue pursuing her interests in art and design while building on her strong foundation of academic and extracurricular achievement.
