Students Showcase Teamwork, Academic Excellence, and Quick Thinking to Capture County Title in Secaucus


Hoboken, NJ, —(June 8, 2026)  The Hoboken Middle School 6th Grade Academic Bowl team delivered a remarkable championship performance at the 2026 Hudson County Academic Bowl in Secaucus, New Jersey, capturing first place and earning county-wide recognition for their outstanding academic achievement.

The 2026 Hudson County Academic Bowl brought together middle school students from across the county to compete in a fast-paced academic competition designed to challenge students in a variety of subject areas. Teams participated in multiple rounds of questioning focused on mathematics, science, history, literature, geography, current events, and critical thinking skills. The event celebrates academic excellence, teamwork, and student leadership while encouraging students to think quickly, collaborate effectively, and demonstrate their knowledge under pressure.

Facing strong competition from schools throughout Hudson County, the Hoboken team demonstrated exceptional teamwork, critical thinking, and composure during every round of the competition. From the opening match to the championship round, the students consistently showcased their depth of knowledge and ability to perform at a high level.

Representing Hoboken Middle School were Patrick Mahat, Veer Bhardwaj, Mina Kim-Tomeck, Anika Konde, Kamran Peyrovian, and Gael Pascual. Together, the students displayed confidence, collaboration, and determination throughout the event. Their ability to communicate effectively, support one another, and answer challenging questions quickly and accurately helped them dominate the competition and secure the county championship.

The Academic Bowl provides students with opportunities to strengthen problem-solving skills, communication, teamwork, and academic confidence while competing in an engaging and intellectually challenging environment. Hoboken’s success at this year’s competition reflects not only the students’ preparation and dedication, but also the strong academic culture fostered throughout the Hoboken Public School District.

School officials praised the students for their hard work, sportsmanship, and commitment to excellence throughout the season. Their championship victory highlights the continued success of Hoboken students both inside and outside of the classroom.

“This accomplishment is a testament to the students’ dedication, preparation, and passion for learning,” said Ryan Sorafine, Hoboken Middle School Principal. “They represented Hoboken Middle School with tremendous pride and demonstrated what can be achieved through teamwork, perseverance, and academic excellence.”

The victory marks a memorable achievement for the 6th Grade Academic Bowl team and serves as a source of pride for the entire Hoboken community.
