Hoboken Public School District’s Music Education Program Receives National Recognition
District Honored for the Fifth Consecutive Year by The NAMM Foundation
Hoboken, NJ, — (May 25, 2025) The Hoboken Public School District is proud to announce it has once again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Hoboken has received this prestigious national recognition, now in its 26th year.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to school districts across the United States that demonstrate exceptional achievement in providing music access and education to all students. To qualify, the Hoboken Public School District completed a comprehensive survey covering funding, participation, instructional time, facilities, and community support for music programs. All responses were verified by district officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
“Our music program thrives because of the dedication of our talented educators and the enthusiasm of our students. This national recognition is a testament to their hard work and the district’s commitment to making music education accessible and meaningful for every child.,” said Danielle Miller, Supervisor of Theater Arts & Music Education.
This national honor highlights the district’s alignment with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which identifies music and the arts as essential elements of a well-rounded education. ESSA replaced the No Child Left Behind Act and emphasizes the importance of access to high-quality music education for all children.
“Music education goes beyond notes and rhythms—it shapes character, builds community, and fosters lifelong skills. Our expanding programs are helping students discover their voices and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom.” added David Stasiak, Hoboken Public School District Coordinator.
The impact of music education is backed by extensive research. Studies show that students involved in music programs develop stronger language and reasoning skills, perform better academically, and are more likely to graduate high school and attend college. Music participation also improves cognitive processing, memory, and attention, while promoting social development, teamwork, and self-discipline.
This year’s NAMM Foundation recognition reinforces Hoboken’s position as a leader in arts education—not just locally, but on a national scale—reflecting a community-wide commitment to the arts as an essential part of every student’s learning experience.
