Hoboken Public Schools Celebrates Student Innovation as Two Teams Advance to Statewide STEAM Tank™ Challenge Finals
Hoboken, NJ, — Hoboken Public School District is proud to announce that two student teams have advanced to the 2026 New Jersey School Boards Association STEAM Tank™ Challenge Finals, a prestigious statewide competition that celebrates student innovation, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship.
The STEAM Tank™ Challenge invites students across New Jersey to design creative solutions to real-world problems, fostering critical thinking, collaboration, and applied learning in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
Out of hundreds of submissions from across the state, Hoboken students distinguished themselves through originality, thoughtful design, and meaningful impact—earning a place in the final round of competition, which will take place during the week of May 18.

“These student teams exemplify the very best of Hoboken Public School District,” said Assistant Superintendent Sandra Rodriguez Gomez. “Their work reflects not only creativity and innovation, but also a deep commitment to solving real-world problems. This is what happens when students are given the opportunity to think critically, collaborate meaningfully, and apply their learning in authentic ways.”
Superintendent Dr. Johnson added, “This achievement is a powerful reflection of what is possible when rigorous instruction meets creativity and purpose. Our students are not only learning, they are innovating, designing, and leading. We are incredibly proud of how they are representing the Hoboken Public School District on a statewide stage and demonstrating that the future is already at work in our classrooms.”
The STEAM Tank™ Challenge is designed to empower students to become the next generation of innovators, encouraging them to explore solutions related to environmental sustainability, public health, community needs, and global challenges. Participation in the finals provides students with an opportunity to further refine their ideas, strengthen their presentation skills, and showcase their work before a panel of educators, industry professionals, and community leaders.
