Hoboken Teacher Starts Scholarship for Students
HOBOKEN – Hoboken Public Schools music teacher, Kristen Hoyt has started a $1,500 scholarship for students interested in the arts. Hoyt and Hoboken Schools Theatre Director Danielle Miller have organized a "Disney Concert & Singalong" this Friday, March 23 at 6 p.m. in the Hoboken High School auditorium.
Students from across the district will be performing classic and new Disney favorites and proceeds will go to the new scholarship as well as the drama club.
Hoyt established the Peter J. Antonelli Arts Scholarship in honor of her late grandfather to assist students pursuing their dreams.
Antonelli, who taught for 20 years and passed away last year, inspired Ms. Hoyt to become a teacher and follow his footsteps into the field of education.
Devoting countless hours beyond the classroom to mentoring Hoboken Public School students across the district, Hoyt herself has helped many thrive as artists and individuals over the past seven years.
“5th Graders I taught when I started teaching in Hoboken are now very talented musical seniors – some of whom even sung at my wedding last year,” said Hoyt. “I have enjoyed being a part of their journey to date and I have set up the $1,500 Arts Scholarship to help our talented and motivated students bursting with ability pursue their excellence in music even further.”
“My grandfather dedicated his life to empowering students like them achieve their dreams and helped shape the lives of many. He taught me so much and I hope this scholarship will see the impact he had on students while alive continue in his memory,” said Hoyt.
Doors open at 4:30pm for snacks, raffles, face painting, and balloon animals.
All proceeds will go to the Hoboken Drama Club and the Peter J. Antonelli Arts Scholarship.
